place
i am severely disinterested in politics and literal interpretations of classical thought, and believe that an assertion of absolute truth is a shot in the dark just as much as it is the fabric of our culture. i think that the privilege of living happily is mostly overshadowed by a need to answer questions that we're unqualified to be asking. the missing sense of how enormous our world really is might help us understand how absurd it is to be sad or angry or afraid or convinced of anything.

quarter one
barring a healthy sense of intervals, this blog does not lay dormant by design. the process of updating is simple and can take only a few minutes to accomplish, and so it is a bit of a surprise-even to me-to find my visage still wishing readers a happy new year. while this is not for lack of interest or time or excitement, in the absence of any big news the pattern may well have persisted through the spring.
but there is a cat.
it used to be that her name was sophia, but she goes by sophie now and we have all come to terms with this. sophie is well-tempered and sophisticated. like many cats, she is a nocturnal creature, quiet during the day but manifesting thunderstorms of raw energy at night, seemingly from nowhere. she is the hungriest of all cats, and is pictured below prowling after a bug that happened indoors one day.
market theory posits that as the sales of new cats rise, so must the sales of cameras to record them, so as expected we have also welcomed a canon rebel into our lives.

today is my first day of work. well, orientation, which is really probably just fun and games, but i am required to be there. and that, my friends, is the mason-dixon line between work and play. here is a song i found this morning courtesy of the matt nathanson blog.

paste magazine's 50 best albums of the decade

this is a pretty neat collection. you can listen to every cd on the list, and there are quite a few i would recommend. sufjan stevens took the #1 spot with the illinois cd.
